How To Survive A Cheating Spouse

You can feel cheated and betrayed when your spouse starts cheating on you.  This doesn’t mean that you should greet them with violence and learn how to survive life after them.  This means that you should know how to emotionally move on after you know that you’ve been hurt in this manner. So it’s important to know how to survive a cheating spouse.

You are not alone.  This could be the most important part of the survival process.  Secondly, know that it’s not all about you.  Your spouse may not be doing this just because of you or to hurt you.  Infidelity comes about for many different reasons and you aren’t necessarily any of those reasons.  The breakdown of communication in a marriage is often a big factor, but this isn’t only about you.

It is important to know that after you realize your spouse is cheating on you for a fact, you should take the time to understand why.  Even though they are the cheater, this may not be a clear black and white issue.  You have been wronged, yes, but you should at least take the time to listen to what they have to say to you.

Of course, this may not be possible.  Depending on the feelings, emotions, and circumstances of the affair, a clean break may just be better.  Dropping everything and moving on could be smartest.  This doesn’t mean, though, that you should hold on to bitterness or hostility.  Just leave everything behind and try to move on.

Once your trust has been betrayed, you cannot reclaim it.  If there is no love between you and your spouse, no point in living together.  Both of you may be equally responsible for getting into this situation, so you may want to compromise and come to terms.  This can happen if you still love him and the feeling is mutual.

Whatever the circumstances of your spouse’s infidelity, remember that no one can or should depend upon another person for happiness or security. Those things are learned and earned by taking control of your own emotions, actions and reactions. Knowing how to survive a cheating spouse is just a side benefit!
