Few things equate with the sense of overwhelming loss and despair that accompany such an event.

*Dispose of any things that remind you of your former relationship. Pictures, presents, toys, jewellery. If it holds a emotional connotation then it needs to removed from your enviroment. Put it in storage, bury it in the garden, do whatever you have to do, to get it out of your sight.
*Avoid any contact with your ex. Depending on your situation this step should be reasonably simple to follow unless you work together or attend the same college. If this is the case then try and ensure your contact is kept to a minimum. In particular steer clear of any situations that may oblige you to be alone with your ex.
*Do not communicate with your ex. No email, no tweets, no Facebook. Especially no drunken late night phone calls or text messages. Your instinctive desire is to turn to your ex when you are suffering but this is no longer an option.
* Get busy! Both physically and mentally. An active mind has little occasion to dwell on your ex. Don’t underestimate the benefits of a tough workout to release some pent up resentment. If nothing else it virtually guarantees a reasonable nights sleep.
